Welcome Students and Parents of Division 7!

I hope that this will be a place where we can better open the lines of communication between myself, the students and the parents/guardians. I also hope to use this space as part of my general encouragement to use various forms of technology to help us learn in different and meaningful ways.

Happy Halloween

The past two days of Halloween activities were a great way to celebrate the end of the month. Pumpkin carving on Wednesday went incredibly well. Division 7 put lots of hard work into their stencilled creations and their effort definitely paid off. The costumes today were incredible. We had a great time at the Haunted House, working with our grade 1 buddies and celebrating with a movie party. There are many more photos in the Pictures section.
I hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween and look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Pumpkin Carving

22/10/2019

So the plan is to carve pumpkins on Wednesday, October 30th. I will have all the tools and supplies and (hopefully) every student can bring a pumpkin. I'll cut the lid, but students can do all of the cleaning and carving as the tools are all small and safe.

The idea would be to create or use a stencil to use for carving onto the pumpkin. The top three pictures show what my kids were able to do 2 years ago. They drew their own design and it was applied to a pumpkin for stencilling before we carved. They were very pleased with the results.

The rest of the pictures are pumpkins that I have carved in the past to show some examples of what can be accomplished with some time, patience and practice (and an example of the types of tools we will use for carving). Some of these stencils might not be too difficult for members of the class to attempt, so I will have some ability-appropriate stencil options available for Wednesday as well.

If anyone has any issues getting a pumpkin to school for Wednesday next week, please contact me, as I can try to have a selection of extras just in case.

What a great season! The Mackenzie Cross Country season seemed short, but it was packed with great practices, 4 mini-meets at Douglas Park and a final district meet at Trout Lake yesterday! Despite the rainy weather, a fun time was had competing with almost 2800 other students from Vancouver schools. Special congratulations to division 7 members Cam, Genelle, Madelyn and Miriam on an excellent season!
