Alright, that wasn't the best idea. I am currently still sick and it got progressively worse from that date. I have a chest infection, which I TOTALLY do not recommend. Fever finally left on Christmas Eve, but I still feel lousy. I started doing less things, but still got a lot done. We visited Santa (picture below - recognize the shirt?), went to the Vancouver Aquarium and had an excellent Christmas morning/dinner. I made breakfast for 6 and dinner 13. It was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. More fun with the new chef knife that Santa brought me! Hope he was good to you as well!
Ok, Did you read the last post? If not, go back and read about how I was flaunting being sick and not resting and getting better because I am a busy guy. Go ahead, I'll wait. Well...It is the start of Winter Break and, as usual, my body has given up and I am sick. Runny and stuffed nose (How are both even possible!?) and a fever. Good times. I'd assume resting would be the best course of action, but that just doesn't seem to be me. Lots of family visiting, playing in the snow, some painting and I installed a light. Maybe I'll rest tonight...we shall see. How is the break going for all of you?
I imagine I won't get in to the concert at 1:30, so I have recorded the rehearsal from this morning to post for all of those who want to see/those who cannot make it this afternoon. Our class is one of three classes performing Riptide by Vance Joy. The challenge of the group was to use all of the instruments in the music room and, under the guidance of their music teacher, Mr. Stephenson, put together this performance. I hope you enjoy! On a personal note, Thank you for all of the cards and lovely gifts that I received this week. While not necessary, they are truly appreciated. I am looking forward to a few weeks to spend relaxing with family and I hope all of you have an excellent break as well! A reminder for homework, I want students to email 1 (and only 1) picture from the holiday to [email protected] - we will use this picture in the new year! I also plan on updating this website at least 5 times this winter break! Stop by, comment, chat and I'll try to reply to everyone as well so we can all stay in touch a bit! Have an excellent break! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year! Mr. Martin Just a reminder that the Mackenzie Winter Concert will be tomorrow (Friday) at 1:30pm. I will do my best to make a video of the performance to put on this website for those who can't make it, but do hope to see some of you at the show!
This week, Division 11 participated in the Hour of Code. We had done some coding previously in the term, but this week, we joined over a million people world wide in participating in some form of coding/computer science over the course of this specific week. We explored a Minecraft universe where the students could use Blockly to help direct characters to do certain things using simple coding commands. We focused on basic movement directions, such as moving forward and turning, and later went further to explore repeat commands and if/but commands. The students had a lot of fun mastering their skills before meeting up with the grade 2 students in Ms. Trister's class to teach them how to code using the same program. It was a fun and educational time.
