Tomorrow we move on to Science World. Please be on time, as the bus leaves shortly after 9am. I will try to take more pictures from the day to post here.
Apologies for not getting very many pictures during the iRide program. I was put to work with my group of riders who were new, or didn't have much experience riding. 2 days is a short time, but the progress that was made was remarkable. Half of my small group became comfortable riding on their own in that short time, with the other half making great gains to hopefully get there in the near future if they choose to do so. The rest of the class looked like they were having fun playing games and practicing various skills to help improve their overall riding as well.

There has been a small change to our iRide in school bicycle field trip. The teacher who organized (not me) thought that they had selected 3 free school days for the program, when in reality, the school already had a performance scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Performances are funded by the Performance Fee, which is collected in September with School fees. This essentially means that parents have already paid for the performance and missing it would mean we are missing something that you have already paid for. We attempted to reschedule, but at this time of year, that seems to be impossible. The solution that was chosen was to opt out of one day of the iRide Program, leaving us with 2 days to participate in the program instead of 3.
With the change, our portion of the iRide program is now only a $7 cost. Since I have collected the $12 for the iRide Program already, I will use the extra $5 per student that I have in my school account to lower the cost of our next field trip. The next field trip will be to Playland on May 16. Notices will be going home for that field trip early next week. The original cost was to be $30 per student, but after using some field trip money from the PAC and the iRide money we now have, the cost to you will be $20 per student. I hope that works. Also, Our field trip to Science World is this Friday. I could really use a parent or two to help with the supervision. If any parents are available and would like to come for a fun day of science, please send me a message using the contact form. Thanks and Have a Great Weekend. Today in class, we watched a short nature video from Planet Earth II, titled, Iguana vs Snakes. After watching and discussing, the class wrote short stories based on what we watched. They self edited and produced a second draft/good copy on their blogs. Links to blogs/stories are in the student section of this website.
The iRide bicycle program will be running at Mackenzie at the end of the month. Our class has afternoon time slots for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (before heading to Science World Friday! What a week!).
Bicycles and helmets are supplied, but if you have your own, they can be brought to school. Bicycles can be locked in the areas provided surrounding the school. Should bringing the bike be too difficult, bringing just a helmet is fine and a bike can be provided, or both can be provided if needed. Bikes must be locked in one of the racks outside of the school and cannot be stored in the school. Waivers must be completed by all students to participate. The waiver must be completed online, or you will not be able to participate. You can find it here: http://cyclingbc.net/iridewaiver The area is Vancouver & Sea to Sky (The 5th one on the list) and listed as Sir Alexander Mackenzie Elementary. I'm not a student, and therefore have not actually filled one out before myself, but if you run into any hiccups in the waiver process, please let me know in the comments and I will try to help you out, or I can contact someone who can. If you have other questions about the program, etc, more information can be found here: https://cyclingbc.net/iride/parents/get-ready/ Hopefully we get some nice weather and have a fun week! |
