Sorry it has taken such a long time to post anything this holiday, but it has been busy! The Martin household has been playing host to visitors from Edmonton and Toronto (my wife's family) here to meet Zack and celebrate the holiday season. My parents are also back in town from Arizona to share in the fun times. I don't think I have had a day without visitors over since the winter vacation began over a week ago! It's been busy, but a good busy.
This year, Zack celebrated his first Christmas and Jonny his third. While Zack wasn't really paying attention to any of the gifts and couldn't eat the food, his brother was able to pick up the slack by enjoying all the fun things Christmas has to offer! Both kids were spoiled by their grandparents, aunts, uncles and Santa Claus with an assortment of planes, trains, cars, clothes and other fun things. I think Jonny liked the Incredible Hulk toy I got him, as he has the Hulk help him open the rest of his presents. Zack was indifferent to the light up stuffed dragon I got him, but I am sure that he will learn to like it!
I also got a little bit spoiled myself. First, I was incredibly spoiled by all of you at school. Thanks again for all of the cards, treats and presents. You really know how to make a guy feel pretty special! I was also pretty lucky at Christmas. I was lucky enough to receive a new football jersey (pictured below, I am sure Ivan will approve of the number), a few comic books (Batman and Guardians of the Galaxy), a new router (to make my internet faster at home) and a new set of paint brushes. Maybe I'll do some painting with you all sometime in the new year...
I also had the honour to make both Christmas breakfast for my family (8 of us) and Christmas dinner for my wife's family (9 of us). For breakfast I made scrambled eggs, bacon, baked beans, tomato slices, toast with homemade jams (strawberry rhubarb, plum and peach) and fresh fruit (pineapple, honeydew melon and cantaloupe). After breakfast clean up, I had to put the turkey in to make sure it would be ready for dinner! In addition to the turkey, we had stuffing, garlic mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts with bacon, honey glazed carrots and parsnips, jello with fruit in it (a Martin family tradition), gravy and homemade cranberry sauce. I'll admit that my wife helped with the stuffing (because I don't really eat it, so I didn't know what a good stuffing should taste like) and my Mom made the cranberry sauce, but I prepared everything else all by myself. Somehow I also had to clean all the dishes after too! Regardless, I am very proud of the fact that I could make a dinner that turned out so well for that many people all by myself. I can't wait to do it again - only this time without having to do all the dishes after!
I hope the holidays have been just as good for all of you as well. There is less than a week left of vacation, so I hope you are enjoying it to the fullest. While enjoying it, remember to gather 5-10 photos from your winter break. Email them to yourselves (might take a few emails depending on how big the picture files are) at an email address you can check from school *like hotmail, gmail, yahoo, etc). If you do not have an email address that you can send it to, please send the pictures to [email protected] and we will get them when we start the project at school. If you are unable to take any pictures, you can search for pictures on the internet that summarize/look like the things that you did (for example, if you went on a bike ride, you can find a picture of kids riding their bikes). Those can also be emailed, either to yourself, or to the email address above.
I'll see you all in less than a week! If you managed to read this far down, you deserve to see a few pictures! Enjoy!
