Also, just a reminder that report cards go home Friday, March 10.
I hope that this will be a place where we can better open the lines of communication between myself, the students and the parents/guardians. I also hope to use this space as part of my general encouragement to use various forms of technology to help us learn in different and meaningful ways.
Special thanks to Romana's family for bringing food for the entire class (and most of the staff) to help celebrate a great term this past Wednesday. There was pizza, crazy bread, chicken strips, bbq pork fried rice, juice and chocolate chip muffins for dessert. A few photos are up in the Pictures section.

Hi Alysa! I went pizza sandwich a few times, so that was my go-to favourite. I was also really happy there was juice. So many nice options. We are a lucky class!

That fried rice was amazing! Homemade too! I didn't get any crazy bread though. Some crazy kids ate it all. :/

It hasn't been the best to start, Alysa. My hockey team won our playoffs series, but I tore a muscle in my groin in the process. I am currently hobbling around, hoping to be better soon! How are things going so far for you? Hopefully better ;)

Hi Mr.Martin. I have a question. Who were you named after? I was named after Alyssa Milano.

Good question. I don't think I was named after anyone. My dad wanted an Irish name and Sean and Jon (my father's name) are similar in that regard. My son (Jon) was named for his grandfather (my dad) and my son Zack was kind of/sort of named with Zack Morris in mind, the main character from the TV show Saved By The Bell. For both names for my kids, my wife and I wanted names that weren't always the easiest to spell on the first try. Sean has many spellings (as does my wife's name). Jon has John. Zack has Zach. We both grew up correcting people on our name's spelling and felt it helped us not be afraid to be social or talk to people. We thought this was a small experience that we should pass on to our kids.

I heard King Kong was a good movie. Also heard they are thinking of eventually tying it into making a King Kong vs Godzilla movie. That would be fun!
