A great time was had by all today as we invited Oliver, a local artist, into the classroom to help us with some soapstone carvings. He walked us through the process from shaving off large edges to using very fine sandpaper to eliminate scratches and give it that extra smoothness. Students got to choose between a wolf, orca or bear and the final results were amazing! Be sure to check out more pictures in the Pictures section of the website!

They were all placed at random. I thought it turned out pretty well. I don't think the orcas are kissing necessarily...more touching noses. That being said, how is it gross if two soapstone whales are kissing?

I bet as you make carvings more specific and intricate, it takes a lot more, time, skill and patience. That being said, I think our first try was really quite good!

Welcome Students and Parents of Division 7!
I hope that this will be a place where we can better open the lines of communication between myself, the students and the parents/guardians. I also hope to use this space as part of my general encouragement to use various forms of technology to help us learn in different and meaningful ways.
